This October 24th – 26th, Osprey will host an ACA Instructor Update & Coaching Process Workshop.
Instructor updates provide important opportunities to maintain your certification, keep current with teaching techniques & coaching methodologies, learn from your peers, and refresh you instructor “bag of tricks”.
The Coaching Process Workshop is designed to expose instructors, instructor trainers, and instructor trainer educators in all disciplines to core coaching competencies and behaviors that enhance long term paddler development by increasing efficiency, student motivation and an individual’s access to learning. While the CP course is based on current educational theory and best practice, at its core it’s a fun, hands on, collaborative experience designed to harness the talents of each participant. The CP course will cover the following coaching competencies:
•Observation and analysis
•The role of feedback
•Developing performance assessments.
•Long term paddler development
Friday: The Teaching/Instructing/Coaching (T.I.C.)Process. Topics Include: Long Term Paddler Development, Session Planning, Student Centered Coaching, Observation and Analysis
Friday Evening: Updates from the SEIC and Coastal Kayak Committee
Saturday: L2-L4 on-water sessions with a focus on using the environment, teaching for meaning, contextualizing coastal skills
Sunday: L2-L4 on-water sessions with a focus on using the ACA Level Skills Assessments as content, facilitating a performance assessment.
Prerequisites: This course is appropriate for American Canoe Association (ACA) L2 – L4 Instructors.
Cost: $250.00 does not include lodging.
